India has a long coastline which offers it with immense opportunities to harvest aqua resources. In India aquaculture has grown in the last few decades at a high growth rate. Before the 1970s fishermen used to harvest only marine fishes but after getting good prices of prawns specifically “shrimps” they started inland shrimp farming due to high returns on sale. After that Indian shrimp industry is continuously expanding and shrimp is now the most exported element in India’s aquaculture export basket. Shrimp farming has contributed to the growth of export business, improvement of the seaside local area, and generally speaking advancement of beach front regions. Considering the importance of the shrimp industry, focusing on increasing sustainable production is very necessary.
